Techniques Today! Class 3 Samples - Reinker Techniques

Below are the samples for this coming week's Techniques Today! Classes. The topic is reinkers. See below for a look at what you can create using Distress Reinkers.

We used Jet Black Archival ink to stamp this La Blanche stamp onto watercolor paper. Then we colored the stamped image using Distress reinkers and water color brushes.

We used reinkers and water in mini misters to create custom ink sprays. Then we misted the background with several colors and dried it with a Heat It tool. Then we used a Crafter's Workshop mask over the top and remisted using the same color mists. Then we carefully removed the mask and dried the piece with the Heat It tool.

This sample was created by stamping with a custom inked stamp pad.
We used cut and dry felt for the stamp pad. First inked up the stamp with Jet Black Archival Ink, and stamped it on the felt, then we used Chipped Sapphire and Fired Brick reinkers to color the stamped image only on the felt. Then we pressed the stamp onto our custom stamp pad and away we went making multiple stamped impressions on Specialty Stamping paper!

The above three techniques will be taught in our classes on Tuesday, July 3rd and Thursday July 4th.
Tuesday's class is from 6 pm - 8 pm. Thursday's class is from 10 am - Noon. Please call the store at 660-696-2667 or e-mail us at thecraftlab@qualityhardware.com to sign up. Class size is limited, so sign up early to guarantee your spot in this class.

Dylusions Journal

A couple of weeks ago, we got in some really cool spray inks by Ranger. They are the creation of their designer Dyan Reaveley...a fun, eclectic gal from the UK. I find her artistic style refreshing and liberating. She doesn't plan her art, she just creates it on the fly! I love that! I really wanted to hate this product, but I just can't...I am having way too much fun with these vibrant sprays. If you know me, I love color, and these sprays really bring it to the tablet...and anything else you spray it on. WOW.
Below is the intro page for my very own Art Journal. It was not the first page I created with the sprays, but it is the only one I have not messed up while creating other pages. That is a whole other post...but just so you know, I am keeping my mistakes...and will work to make them into art as well. Nothing a few embellishments can't cover up later on! It's all good!

The cloud is an old Sizzix die, the lightening bolt is actually the Tim Holtz Bird and Branch die...I cut off the bird. Sorry little bird...your feet added just the right touch to make the branch into the lightening bolt I imagined when I turned the die cut sideways! Love that versatile die! Thanks Tim! for Sparking my creativity! The words were created using my Picket Fence Distress Marker. I added some sparkle to the lightening bolt with some Chandelier Glimmer Glam by Tattered Angels. Accenting on the flowers and the cloud's silver lining were made with the Clear Stardust Pen by Sakura. Last but definitely not least...the background was created using Dyan's wonderful Dylusions sprays...too many colors to mention. I also used her ghosting technique and her Crafter's Workshop templates to create some of the background effects. The flowers, by the way, were an accidental bleed through from the back of this page created when I added all the wet sprays to the page. A pleasant discovery! Now I know exactly why Dyan doesn't try to plan her designs! I totally get it...and you will too when you try the Dylusions sprays for yourself. LOVE 'EM!

Man Cards...

Shown above is a card I made for my Father for Father's Day this year. Sweet and simple.
I used the Tim Holtz Mini Old Jalopy Movers & Shapers die for the car, recycled packaging for the windows which I tinted with alcohol inks. For the headlight beam I used a piece of an old transparency and sanded it then inked it with Archival Pale Ocher and used a sharpie to Print Dad in reverse on the backside of the piece. I attached it behind the headlight with Glossy Accents. I used a Paint dabber in Snow Cap white for the clouds. Tim Holtz Stamps for the birds on a wire (from one of his clear sets). EK Success icicle punch for the grass. I also inked the card with Distress Ink, Broken China to give the sky some depth.

This is my first project using the new Tim Holtz Riveted Texture Fade embossing folder. I have to say...
I am in love with this folder. So many possibilities. It could be riveted metal or how about inking it green and using it as a circuit board? I have an idea for that angle, but I have a few supplies I need to find before I pursue my idea for that one. For this card, I used black soot, latte and rust alcohol inks for the background color on the Metal foil tape. Tim Holtz BigZ Gears die, His new mini gears embellishments and some black foam tape to pop up the gears and give the card some dimension. This could be used for a birthday or any other special occasion card.
